A. 16 &17 year old people need to follow the instructions here: This is the basic instructions for a first time passport (you'll have to use the DS-11 form) and you'll need to appear in person - they may also ask for a parent to be there.

Is passport needed to apply for EAD during the I-485 stage?
Q. My H1-B is valid till dec 31st, 2007. From Jan 3rd, Iam planning to work with EAD. I need to apply for EAD tomorrow, but lost my passport yesterday. Getting a new passport takes atleast 2 months at my home country's consulate here in usa. I have applied I-485 couple of months back. Does anyone know whether we need passport to apply for EAD? I just remember only my passport number but that passport is now lost. I have filed a complaint at local police station and also informed my home country consulate. I know that we need passport for the next H-1B, but Since I have applied for I-485 and am planning to use EAD, do we still need passport to apply for EAD?

A. At least, here's what the USCIS says: A copy of your last EAD (front and back). If no priorEAD has been issued, you must submit a copy of afederal government issued identity document, such as apassport showing your picture, name, and date of birth; abirth certificate with photo ID; a visa issued by a foreignconsulate; or a National ID document with photo and/orfingerprint. The identity document photocopy mustclearly show the facial features of the applicant and thebiographical information.

How can I renew my passport if my parents are aboard?
Q. I am a student in California. I need my US passport to be renewed because I have to go to Korea this August and my passport will expire in July. My parents live in Korea and I live in California with my guardian. But I couldn't get my passport with my guardian's signature because he is not a court order established guardianship or whatever. I am 16 so I need my parents signature. Is there any way that I can make my passport with out making my parents come to US? Also is both of my parnets required to sign eventhough I'm over 14?
Asked by PJLee - Thu Jun 14 15:56:32 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, you could send the forms to your parents for them to sign. But a more interesting question for me is how are you in the US without a legal guardian?

Is a passport required to go on a cruise that goes around Hawaii?
Q. I was planning a vacation to Hawaii and before I book it and reserve it, I wanted to make sure that it didn't require a passport because my passport has expired and I don't think I have enough time to get it done this summer. So I was wondering would an Driver's License, ID, or an Student ID be ok to go on a Hawaiian cruise? Thank You so much for answering my question! Thank You so much for answering my question!
Asked by flavormeattt - Sun Jun 28 04:05:20 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. So long as the ship stops only in Hawaii, you do not need a passport. However, the cruise line may require one anyway, so be sure to find out! As to your expired passport, it doesn't really take very long at all to renew, so why not do it anyway? It's wonderful ID for all sorts of travel.

When does the passport law between Canada and the United States start?
Q. My friend wants me to come camping with her in the states but I don't have a passport. Do I have to show It starting june1st? I'm not sure. What would happen if I went in the states before june 1st without a passport and I tried to return to Canada after june 1st without one?

A. "Hi"...Go before June 1st if you don't have a Passport simple as that ...have some picture I.D and a Birth Certificate for presentation to U.S. Customs! On June 1st. and after you are hooped as U.S Customs will be adament about having one as it's law. As far as Canadian customs goes...you'll have to prove you are Canadian on your return home which shouldn't be difficult ! I mean let's face it , you are not going to be denied if you are a Canadian regardless if you have a Passport or not. Happy camping and glad to help ! *S* (Michael C...)

A. A passport is valid the day it is issued. The '6 month rule' refers to advice to replace you passport if it expires within the next six months. (Many countries issue visas on a six month basis and will not issue you a visa if you pasport expires before the visa will.)

A. You can apply to renew your passport if you still have your last passport and: it was a standard UK adult ten-year passport or a UK five-year child's passport issued before you were 16 it is undamaged you do not need to change your name or national status .. Only adults who have never before had a British passport in their own name before need to attend an interview. If you had your own passport as a child you will not need an interview, as your application is classed as a renewal. If you did not have a passport as a child (or were only ever included on a parent s passport) you will need to attend an interview. .. Since you apply under the renewal procedures you can get an appointment for fast track service at one of the… [cont.]

A. You are good to go with your passport of the Philippines until the last date of its validation. More than 120 countries have concluded an agreement with the United States that their citizens are not required to have the regular six month validation of the passport for entering the United States; one of these countries is the Philippines. How To Get a Passport Quickly From My Post Office Without Stress?
Q. I'm an 18yr old male, college student, residing in Los Angeles California and on July 3rd am going to be in China for about 4 weeks. This is my 1st time travelling outside the United States and have never obtained a passport. Therefore am completely clueless on how to obtain one; especially in a shorter amount of time since the trip is a mere six (6) weeks away. Luckly I live about 2 blocks from a post office and I know they do passports there but can someone fill me in on what I need to do to get one? Especially in this short amount of time? What do i need, when do i need it and how soon? Is there anyway I can speed things up by doing them online? Website links and valuable information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

A. You need your actually birth certificate (not the one from the hospital but the real one from the county with the stamp, no copies allowed), and $100. They can take your picture there, you can fill it out there and off it will go. They can tell you if you need to spend a little extra to expedite the passport so you should bring your e-ticket from the airline with you. You might even need to make an appointment and go to the federal building to get it. Passports are taking about 3 months to process right now. You need to go the post office as soon as you can and sorry but you can't fill out any of it on-line.

How long does your passport have to be valid for to travel to and from Canada from the US?
Q. I am going to Canada in May with my mother. Her passport will expire in July. I know that in Europe not only do you need a valid passport but it has to be valid for as much as 6 months past the return date. I was wondering if the held true for Canada. My guess is no but does anyone know for sure?

A. It only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay. See site below, enter your nationality and destination and click for the info. It will tell you that you may stay till the expiry date of your passport. If you are driving to Canada, you do not even need passports.

A. There should be a passport office in the main post office in your town. Ask them, tell them that the father is being arbitrary and that your are estranged from him. They should have access to his passport information in their computer. Take the child's birth certificate with you.

What happens if your passport is lost in the mail when you apply for a visa?
Q. If you have sent the embassy a prepaid envelope to return your passport and your passport is lost in the mail, what do you do? Particularly if you're traveling in 3 weeks what can you do?
Asked by Hello There - Mon Dec 24 15:11:52 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The US Embassy in manila uses a reliable courier service. In your case, you can actually sue the courier company which lost your passport leading to this inconvenience. This means you have to go back to number 1, get an affidavit of loss of passport, certified by a notary public, report loss of passport to the police ( maybe u can bypass this ) , apply for new passport then apply for a US visa again. It is really inconvenient.

Do you need a passport to buy plane tickets to a foregin country?
Q. I don't have a passport, but I need to buy tickets so I can get the passport! (They need proof of travel for one day service). I have to get my passport like NOW, so I want to buy tickets to Austrailia but I don't know, do you need a passport for that? I don't want to go all the way to the airport just to find out I can't buy tickets without a passport. I'm buying from Air Canada. I know you need a passport to take the flight, but to simply buy the tickets do you need a passport for that?
Asked by SmileyGuy - Mon Jun 4 14:29:51 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No, you don't need a passport to buy plane tickets as long as you're travelling within the borders of United States. But travelling outside of USA is completely a different story. Even crossing the border of US and Canada, the government will soon require a passport. Going anywhere in Europe and Asia it is imperative that you have a passport. My advise to you is to get a passport if you're planning on travelling anywhere outside of USA.
