How do artists portray identity in their work?
Q. I am writing an essay towards my A-Level in Art and am doing some research. My stimulus is Identity, and would be grateful for any input regarding artists and their portrayal of their own identity within their work.

A. I think other than a signature (wether written or otherwise), it has a lot to do with style. I like to draw slim female fantasy characters, I prefer them with long hair, and an array of personally designed garments. I have developed this style through years of practice, and although it reflects that of the video game character creation industry, it is exclusive. Here is my deviantart page for an idea:

What can a identity thief do with my contact information?
Q. I believe an identity thief "stole" my contact information though a craigslist deal. He promised to send me a cashier's check for an item and I have given him my cell phone number, name, and mailing address. Is there anything he can really do with this information? Is there someone I should be contacting or something I should do at this point to protect myself? My worry is that he can somehow use this information to gain access to more important data like my SSN or an account number. Thanks!

Do feminists believe that gender identity is biological for gay people, & a social construct for straight ppl?
Q. Why the double standard? The gay community insists that homosexuality is inherent and biological, but they also do not make claims about heterosexuality, gender identity and gender roles being a social construct for straight people. Feminists say both-- that homosexuality is biological, and that conditioning cannot change a gay person, but they also say that gender identity is a social construct (for straight people), and that it can be conditioned. With this reasoning, can't we say that gay people can also be conditioned to be straight, if nurture trumps nature?

A. Gender identity is totally different from sexuality. If you are referring to trans people-- because i believe that gender is a social construct, I believe that people who identify as men (or as women) who are biologically female (or male) are just as much men (/women) as those with the chromosomes to back it up. And... none of the trans men I know (don't know any women) are over-the-top masculine. My best friend is a musician and hopeless romantic. And my roommate wants to become a drag queen (look up bio-queens or faux queens). Trans people play with gender identity more than any cis person. Read some Judith Butler. She explains it :)
