From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Nationality is the relationship between a person and their state of origin, culture, association, affiliation and/or loyalty. Nationality affords the state jurisdiction over the person and affords the person the protection of the state. By custom, it is the right of each state to determine who its nationals are. Such determinations are part of nationality law. In some cases, determinations of nationality are also governed by public international law—for example, by treaties on statelessness and the European Convention on Nationality. The word citizenship is often used in a different sense from nationality. The most common distinguishing feature of citizenship is that citizens have the right to participate in the political life of the state, such as by voting or standing for election. The term national includes both citizens and non-citizens. Alternatively, nationality can refer to membership in a nations (collective of people sharing a national identity, usually based on ethnic and cultural ties and self-determination) even if that nation has no state, such as the Basques, Kurds, Tamils and Scots. Individuals may also be considered nationals of groups with semi-autonomous status which have ceded some power to a larger government, such as the federally recognized tribes of Native Americans in the United States. Spanish law recognises the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Aragón, Catalonia, Valencia, Galicia and the Basque Country as "nationalities" (Nacionalidades). From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is the nationality of a breed as important as the breed as a whole? Q. While there are no guarantees, if the both dogs were excellent specimens of their bloodlines, with fine characters, temperaments & the ability to fulfil the function for which they were originally bred, then outcrossing to new bloodlines can give the domestic gene pool a chance to refresh itself. Do you agree that a breed s nationality should have nothing to do with the breeding of better dogs & a good specimen of the breed is always appreciated? Asked by Memphis Belle - Wed Nov 26 15:18:06 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. In my breed.. most of the top breeders use both American and Import lines.. my dog's sire is a CH import from Finland, his dam is from the US (she has some English imports in her bloodline tho).. there are some improovements with the breed because of breeders outcrossing the bloodlines.. for example, the American lines tend to be more "fine boned".. while some of the import lines tend to be "cobby".. the breed is suppossed to be elegant in appearance, but not to appear breakable.. as a result of mixing the body types, there are more cresteds that are a nice balance between the 2 body types. Q. I'm Jewish. When I'm asked what nationality I am, I used to answer I'm Jewish. Then they would say that's not a nationality it's a religion. Technically my great grandparents were from Poland before they were murdered by the Nazis. But no Jew would say they are Polish, it just doesn't make sense. How do I answer this question? It's actually very frustrating. Asked by Scorpio - Sat Oct 18 13:57:45 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Where were you born and where are your parents from? You are are 3rd generation in the US then you can say that you are American. If you are not 3rd generation then you are Polish.
